Here's Why Taylor Swift's 'The Eras Tour' Probably Won't Be Eligible for Best Documentary at the Oscars

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour was only announced a few days ago, but it’s already a runaway success.

Earlier today it was reported that the presale tickets for the 33-year-old star’s upcoming concert documentary had brought in $26 million for AMC Theaters, obliterating the record that had previously been held by Spider-Man: No Way Home.

But despite these impressive numbers, it remains unclear if the movie will be eligible for Best Documentary at the Academy Awards next year.

Keep reading to find out why…

According to The Wrap, the Academy’s guidelines will likely take Taylor Swift: The Eras tour out of the running.

Section II, B states that “Works that are essentially promotional or instructional are not eligible, nor are works that are essentially unfiltered records of performances.” Therefore, if the movie is simply 165-minutes of concert footage, it will not be eligible.

Taylor Swift: The Eras tour is set to hit theaters on October 13, 2023 and you can see the trailer here.
